Xiaomi 18 Series May Drop Ultra Model Amidst Rising Component Costs

Xiaomi, known for its wide range of smartphone models, particularly in the entry-level and mid-range segments, is reportedly set to drop the 'ultra' variant from its forthcoming Xiaomi 18 series. According to a leak from source Karkiteky Singh on X, the decision to cancel the ultra model for the Xiaomi 18 series might be driven by economic factors. The increasing costs of DRAM and NAND memory components could be influencing Xiaomi's product strategy, leading them to streamline their flagship offerings to three models instead of the typical four.

However, the report also suggests that this move might be temporary. The 'ultra' moniker could make a comeback with the Xiaomi 19 Ultra, potentially launching in late 2027 or early 2028. This future iteration is anticipated to boast a sophisticated 200MP quad-camera system and other advanced camera features, indicating a continued focus on imaging technology.

This development comes as competitors like Oppo and Vivo are also expected to introduce their own ultra-model phones, though these might be exclusive to the Chinese market.
