Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers lands on IL with oblique strain

The New York Yankees' injury woes continue as "fireballer" left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. The team announced the move prior to their 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Weathers, acquired by the Yankees this season, has been enjoying a breakout year. He had set career highs in several categories, including 137.1 innings pitched and 143 strikeouts over 25 starts, boasting a respectable 3.60 ERA. In his last seven starts before the injury, Weathers had posted a 2-0 record with an impressive 1.94 ERA. However, his outing on Tuesday was cut short after just 3.1 innings, where he allowed 8 hits and 2 runs, citing discomfort in his left forearm.

Weathers will rest for 4 to 6 weeks, but he and the Yankees club are optimistic that Weathers can return to the field this season.

Manager Aaron Boone indicated that Weathers is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. Both Weathers and the Yankees organization are optimistic about his return to the mound this season. Weathers himself downplayed the severity, comparing it to a similar, minor injury he sustained during spring training last year with the Miami Marlins.

Despite the return of MVP Cody Bellinger, who went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's game, the Yankees' roster remains heavily impacted by injuries. Star slugger Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and ace left-hander Max Fried are all currently on the injured list. Adding to the team's misfortune, Stanton reportedly suffered a left calf strain during a rehabilitation run on Monday, potentially ending his season.
