Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rain and Hail in Mexico City Boroughs

Mexico City's Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection has activated a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall and potential hail across eight of the capital's boroughs. The alert is in effect for Saturday afternoon and evening, warning of precipitation between 15 and 29 millimeters.

The affected areas are Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Iztapalapa, La Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco. Civil Protection officials are urging residents to take necessary precautions to minimize risks during the downpour. Key recommendations include carrying umbrellas or raincoats and refraining from discarding trash or grease into the drainage systems, which can lead to blockages and flooding.

Authorities also stressed the importance of keeping gutters clear of debris to ensure proper water drainage. Residents are advised to avoid walking or driving through flooded streets and to exercise extreme caution while driving, as heavy rains can dislodge branches or cause trees to fall. Additionally, people should stay clear of walls, trees, power lines, and billboards that show visible signs of potential collapse due to the adverse weather conditions.
