Yellow alert issued for heavy rain and strong winds across Argentina on Thursday, August 20

Argentina's National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for heavy rainfall and strong winds across several provinces for Thursday, August 20. These alerts signal potentially dangerous weather phenomena that could temporarily disrupt daily activities.

The yellow alert for rainfall affects the provinces of Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Misiones, and Santa Fe. These areas could experience persistent rain with accumulated precipitation between 40 and 70 millimeters, possibly exceeding these amounts in some locations. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible, particularly in Misiones. The SMN recommends avoiding unnecessary outdoor activity, securing loose objects, clearing drains, and disconnecting electrical appliances if water enters homes.

Simultaneously, a yellow alert for strong winds has been issued for Río Negro and the coastal region of Buenos Aires province, from General Lavalle to Carmen de Patagones. Expected wind speeds range from 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially exceeding 70 kilometers per hour. Residents in these areas are advised to secure outdoor items like pots and chairs, stay away from windows, and avoid seeking shelter under marquees or trees.

The SMN also provided the weather forecast for the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), predicting a maximum temperature of 17°C and a minimum of 8°C, with cloudy conditions in the morning clearing slightly in the afternoon. Similar conditions are expected to persist into Friday. The forecast for other regions across the country indicates varying temperatures, with highs reaching up to 25°C in La Rioja and lows dropping to 3°C in Córdoba and Chubut.
