YENİ Party lawmaker calls Üsküdar maneuver a declaration of the government’s desperation

YENİ Party deputy leader and Bilecik lawmaker Yaşar Tüzün has denounced what he described as a last-minute attempt to reverse Üsküdar voters’ decision.

In a statement posted on X, Tüzün said Üsküdar residents had clearly rejected the AKP at the ballot box, and that the result remained unchanged in the deputy mayor election. He said council-member transfers one day before the vote had nevertheless produced the opposite political picture.

Securing at the table the authority that the people did not grant at the ballot box is not political success. Fleeing from the ballot box and relying on transfers is not victory, but a declaration of helplessness in the face of the people’s will.

“Üsküdar residents clearly expressed their will at the ballot box. They did not choose the AKP,” Tüzün said. “But now, council-member transfers carried out one day before the election are creating a picture contrary to the decision made by Üsküdar residents.”

He argued that democracy requires respect for the result, not merely holding an election. “Winning Üsküdar for real does not mean bringing council members into your ranks. It means winning the votes of Üsküdar residents,” he said. “Relying on transfers instead of facing the ballot box is not victory, but a declaration of helplessness in the face of the people’s will.”
