Yilan Green Expo wins UK Platinum Award after 7-year hiatus

The Yilan Green Expo has once again achieved international recognition, securing the Platinum Award at the UK's Future Art and Design Awards (FADA) for its "Treasures of Gezhi" theme. This prestigious award, in the conceptual event category, distinguishes the expo among 200 entries from 17 countries. It signifies a triumphant return to international acclaim for the Yilan Green Expo, which last won a FADA Platinum Award seven years ago.

Yilan has been deeply cultivating environmental sustainability and innovative curation. This Green Expo's inspiration comes from 'Gezhi' (investigating things) in the 'Book of Rites,' guiding the public to explore natural principles and seek coexistence.

Running for 44 days and concluding on May 10, the expo drew approximately 450,000 visitors to the Su'ao Wulaokeng Scenic Area. It successfully generated over NT$770 million in green tourism revenue for the county. The theme, "Treasures of Gezhi," drew inspiration from the ancient Chinese text "Liji" (Book of Rites), encouraging visitors to explore natural principles and seek harmonious coexistence.

The Platinum Award honor belongs to the pride of all partners. Thanks to the central government's long-term assistance, the county council's support, and the curatorial team's dedication. We also thank the vast number of visitors and volunteers. It is precisely because of the enthusiastic participation of the entire nation that the Green Expo can demonstrate abundant vitality.

County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng stated that the expo deeply integrated "nature-based solutions," translating complex issues like climate change and marine science into practical, everyday applications. The exhibits broadly covered biodiversity, aiming to inspire visitors to translate sustainability knowledge into action. He attributed the award to the collective effort of partners, central government support, the county council, the curatorial team, visitors, and volunteers, all of whom contributed to the expo's vibrant energy. The county government's Agriculture Department added that international judges highly praised the expo's blend of environmental education, interactive design, and local culture, calling it an accessible and rich sustainable event.
