Yilan's Yuanshan lychee harvest season kicks off with crisp, sweet 'Black Sugar Barbie' variety

The lychee harvest season has arrived in Yuanshan, Yilan, with the "Black Sugar Barbie" variety, also known as the "large fruit" Tai-Nong No. 3, taking center stage. This follows the earlier release of the traditional "Nanyang Pink" variety, known for its delicate texture.

The "Black Sugar Barbie" is prized for its large size, crispness, juiciness, and a slightly sweet and sour taste. Yuanshan's favorable environment, characterized by excellent water quality and dedicated farmers with over 30 years of cultivation experience, contributes to the high standard of local produce. Many farmers have adopted eco-friendly farming practices, achieving zero pesticide residue in their crops.

Yuanshan has excellent water quality, and the farmers carefully cultivate and care for the fruit trees, maintaining local agricultural products at a high level and being famous throughout Taiwan.

Despite a reduction in cultivation area to about 10 hectares due to climate challenges and intensive care requirements, the pesticide-free lychees are considered particularly precious. This year's favorable climate has resulted in exceptionally crisp, juicy, and perfectly sweet lychees that are highly sought after in the market, especially when chilled.

Local officials and farmers are promoting the current harvest season, which runs until the end of June. They invite visitors to experience the taste of Yuanshan lychees and support the local agricultural economy. The region's sweet offerings will continue after the lychee season with the arrival of local high-quality pineapples.
