Yobe APC adopts consensus for 2027 primaries, endorses Tinubu for second term

In a significant move for the upcoming political landscape, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State has opted for consensus as the primary mode for its 2027 elections. This strategic decision, announced by Senator Ahmed Lawan following a stakeholders' meeting in Damaturu, signals a unified approach to candidate selection for the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly positions.

Out of the two modes specified by the Electoral Act — consensus and direct primary elections — Yobe APC has picked consensus.

Senator Lawan articulated that consensus, a method previously successful for the party in the state, was chosen over direct primaries as stipulated by the Electoral Act. He emphasized that any candidate emerging through this process would garner the full support of the party, including those who may have aspired for the same positions. This internal mechanism is designed to foster cohesion and ensure a united front as the party looks towards the 2027 electoral cycle.

And from our previous experience, consensus has always worked for us in this state.

The stakeholders also took the opportunity to unanimously endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term. Governor Mai Mala Buni highlighted the benefits the state has received from the Federal Government's projects, programs, and policies under Tinubu's leadership. This endorsement underscores the party's confidence in the current administration and its commitment to supporting the President's re-election bid.

Any candidate that emerges in any position will receive the support of all in this party, including aspirants who may have wished they were the ones picked.

The Yobe APC has set an ambitious target of delivering 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This goal reflects the party's determination to consolidate its political strength and ensure a resounding victory not only for the presidential candidate but also for its National and State Assembly contenders. The adoption of consensus is seen as a key strategy to achieve this objective by minimizing internal friction and maximizing collective effort.
