Yonsei University President Boosts Global Research Ties in U.S. Visit

Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-sup embarked on a U.S. tour from August 2-11, aiming to strengthen global research partnerships and enhance the university's appeal to top international talent. The initiative is part of Yonsei's strategic push to become a leading research institution through expanded international joint research and recruitment.

During his visit, President Yoon met with Emory University President Leah Ward Sears, signing a strategic agreement to boost research and educational exchanges. The collaboration will focus on future strategic fields, including bio and biomedical engineering, fostering joint research, researcher exchanges, and academic cooperation.

At the Georgia Institute of Technology, Yoon engaged with faculty and researchers in biomedical engineering. Discussions centered on assessing mutual research capabilities and exploring avenues for joint research and exchange programs, laying the groundwork for enhanced collaboration and potential joint degree programs.

Yonsei also took the lead in hosting a "Yonsei Session" at the US-Korea Conference (UKC) 2026 in Orlando. President Yoon presented Yonsei's research vision, global strategies, and support systems to overseas Korean scientists and researchers, actively seeking opportunities for international joint research. A dedicated "Yonsei Booth" served as a hub for interaction, showcasing the university's research prowess and future aspirations.

Furthermore, Yoon attended the 16th Yonsei Alumni Association in the Americas forum, sharing the university's internationalization strategies and discussing ways to strengthen the global Yonsei community. He emphasized that top universities, research institutions, and overseas Korean scientists are key partners in elevating Yonsei's global competitiveness, pledging continued efforts to expand international research and attract talent.
