Yoruba Group Afenifere Applauds Police, Governors for Tackling Kidnapping Surge

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has lauded the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the governors of Ogun and Lagos states for their decisive actions against banditry and kidnapping. The commendation also extended to the respective Commissioners of Police for their roles in coordinated security operations.

The commitment shown by the Ogun and Lagos State governors in supporting security agencies has created an enabling environment for law enforcement personnel to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

Afenifere, in a letter signed by its National Organizing Secretary, Kole Omololu, on behalf of its leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, stated that the security chiefs and state governments have successfully restored confidence by significantly curtailing criminal activities along the Sagamu-Ore Road corridor. The organization described the operations as a clear demonstration of purposeful leadership, professional policing, and effective inter-state collaboration.

This praise comes after Afenifere had previously voiced strong displeasure regarding the escalating incidents of kidnapping and terror attacks. In early May, the group expressed deep concern over the frequency of such crimes, noting that they were occurring almost daily across various parts of the country, including Yorubaland.

The organization specifically highlighted the commitment of the Ogun and Lagos State governors in supporting security agencies, which has fostered an environment conducive to law enforcement. Afenifere applauded the Inspector General of Police for providing strategic operational direction and promoting intelligence-led policing, thereby enhancing the Nigeria Police Force's capability to combat organized crime. Special recognition was also given to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for his expertise and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for deploying necessary resources and equipment that contributed to the joint operation's success. The officers and men involved were also commended for their courage and professionalism.
