Yoruba group Afenifere commends governors, police for combating kidnapping

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization Afenifere has lauded Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and his Lagos State counterpart Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their decisive actions against banditry and kidnapping. The group also commended Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, along with the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos States, Bode Ojajuni and Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, for their coordinated efforts in combating criminal activities along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore corridor. Afenifere's National Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, conveyed the commendation in a letter, highlighting the Inspector-General's strategic leadership and intelligence-driven policing that bolstered the fight against organized crime. The organization noted the governors' unwavering political commitment, which created a conducive atmosphere for security agencies to fulfill their constitutional duties. Written on behalf of Afenifere leader Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the letter stated that the prompt and coordinated response by security chiefs and governors significantly restored public confidence in safety across the affected regions. Afenifere emphasized that the successful operation demonstrated the importance of purposeful leadership, professional policing, and robust inter-state collaboration in tackling violent crimes. The organization specifically commended CP Ojajuni for his operational expertise on the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore axis and CP Fatai for deploying resources, specialized equipment, and logistics that proved crucial to the operation's success. Afenifere reaffirmed its dedication to a secure Southwest, declaring that the region will remain inhospitable to kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements. "The message is unequivocal: 'Kò sí àyè', there is no place for evil in Yorubaland," the letter stated. "Those who seek to threaten the peace, security and prosperity of our people will continue to face the full weight of the law. The Yoruba people remain profoundly grateful for this exemplary display of courage, dedication and public service." This commendation follows a recent joint security operation by Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands that led to the rescue of five kidnap victims within 24 hours along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore Highway. Several suspected criminals were neutralized, and others were arrested during the operation.
