Yoruba Pastors Lead Some of the World's Largest Churches

Yoruba pastors are at the forefront of some of the world's fastest-growing churches, particularly within Nigeria's Pentecostal movement. While these churches often have multi-ethnic congregations, their leadership is heavily concentrated among Yoruba individuals.

Prominent examples include the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), founded in 1952 and now one of Nigeria's largest churches with a vast global presence. Other significant Yoruba-led denominations are Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Christ Apostolic Church, The Fountain of Life Church, Daystar Christian Centre, and Winners Chapel. Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, though born in Kwara state, is of Yoruba descent.

The influence of Yoruba religious leaders extends beyond Nigeria. Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, founder of the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) in the UK, is a notable example. The author, Pastor Sunday Adelaja, also claims to have built the largest evangelical church in Europe, the Embassy of God in Kyiv, Ukraine.
