Young TikTok users tell their love stories through Nguyễn Hùng’s song

“Gói con tim làm quà,” Nguyễn Hùng’s wistful love song, has quickly become a soundtrack for young people sharing romance online. Two weeks after its release, the song had reached 1.2 million views on YouTube, while more than 34,400 TikTok videos used it as background music.

Users have chosen the track for videos about love, confessions, marriage proposals and wedding anniversaries. Its nostalgic melody and emotional lyrics have drawn reactions ranging from admiration to discomfort. Some TikTok users wrote that the tune was so haunting they wanted to keep listening, while others called it overly sentimental or heartbreaking.

The song tells the story of a young man who gives all his feelings to a youthful romance but ultimately faces an unfinished ending. It is the first of four songs written for “Bò sữa bay,” a film centered on the troubled relationship between Quân and San, played by Võ Điền Gia Huy and Ngọc Xuân.

Much of the music video was filmed among the oat fields of Mộc Châu, one of the film’s main settings. Quân repeatedly looks at San with lingering affection, while San appears focused on someone else. Later, Quân appears dressed as a groom and sings the song, but San, dressed as a bride, shows little of the happiness expected on a wedding day. The scenes raise questions about their relationship and hint at a love triangle involving the character Trâu.

The song continues Nguyễn Hùng’s collaboration with director Nguyễn Phạm Thành Đạt. In “Bò sữa bay,” set at a dairy farm in Mộc Châu in the 1990s, Nguyễn Hùng serves as both actor and musician-singer. The film grew from “Tàn sữa,” a work that ranked among the top five films in the 2024 CJ Short Film competition and won an award for promising Asian film projects at the 2025 Busan International Film Festival.
