Young Union Brandenburg to Appoint Provisional Leader After Resignation

The Young Union (JU) in Brandenburg is set to appoint a provisional leader after the abrupt resignation of its state chair, Laura Strohschneider. Her deputy, Carlo Wittlich, has been recommended by the acting state executive board to assume the provisional leadership role.

The full state board is scheduled to vote on the recommendation on Monday. The acting board emphasized the importance of stability and unity, particularly at a time when established parties are experiencing a decline in public support. There is an expectation within the CDU that the proposal for Wittlich's interim leadership will receive majority support.

Strohschneider's resignation on Thursday stemmed from her criticism of CDU leader Friedrich Merz's political direction. She stated that party leadership had lost credibility and that the federal government's reform agenda was not conducive to performance. Strohschneider also expressed disapproval of Merz's personnel changes within the party.
