Yuanli Township Hosts Parent-Child Harvest Carnival Promoting Agriculture and Environment

Yuanli Township in Miaoli County hosted its "115th Yuanli Township Rice Comes to Yuanli - Wanli Bayli Parent-Child Harvest Carnival" on August 23rd. The event aimed to promote local agricultural products and featured a blend of stage performances, a small farmer's market, and interactive DIY activities. Participants could engage in making straw crafts,藺草 weaving, and rice-based foods.

A key attraction this year was the newly added "Water Play Area," designed to help visitors beat the summer heat. This, along with energy-saving and carbon-reduction themed games, drew large crowds of parents and children eager to participate and cool off.

Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin emphasized the importance of agricultural education, stating that instilling these values in children from a young age is crucial. He believes that understanding where food comes from and practicing "eating clean and not wasting" habits are vital for the future. He also noted the rising cost of waste disposal, making food waste reduction an essential conservation effort.

Yuanli Township Mayor Liu Yu-yu highlighted the challenge of kitchen waste disposal, especially after the African swine fever outbreak. She praised the township's sanitation team captain for initiating a "black soldier fly" composting project with a modest budget. This initiative has effectively addressed the waste issue and established a low-cost, sustainable environmental model for Yuanli.
