Yucatán leads Mexico in public spending efficiency

Yucatán has earned national recognition for its exceptional management of public funds, ranking first in Mexico for public spending efficiency. The state secured the top position in the 2026 Diagnosis of Budget Based on Results and Performance Evaluation, conducted by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).

In this rigorous federal assessment, Yucatán achieved an impressive score of 97.9 out of a possible 100. This high rating earned it a "very high" level of advancement, surpassing all other 31 federal entities. The evaluation scrutinizes how state governments plan, administer, supervise, and assess the use of public resources to ensure budgets translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

The ranking places Yucatán significantly ahead of other states. Guanajuato followed in second place with 96.2 points, and Baja California secured third with 92.2 points. The SHCP's diagnosis examines various components of public administration, including program planning, budget integration and execution, results monitoring, performance evaluation, and transparency mechanisms.

Juan Sánchez Álvarez, head of the Secretariat of Administration and Finance, highlighted Yucatán's commitment to accountability. "State public finances are supported by quarterly reports presented to the Budget and Spending Exercise Consultative Council, which includes representatives from the productive sector and civil society, under a scheme of permanent accountability," he stated. This continuous reporting ensures ongoing transparency in the state's financial operations.
