Yüksel Yıldırım: ‘Fenerbahçe are far superior to us’

Yüksel Yıldırım did not soften his assessment after Samsunspor’s 2-0 defeat by Fenerbahçe. The club president said the Istanbul side were “far superior” and not currently Samsunspor’s level.

Yıldırım pointed to seven injuries, including six players from the expected starting lineup. He also congratulated Fenerbahçe on reaching the Champions League and said Samsunspor appeared weaker than last season against Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

He attributed that decline to the club’s approach of rebuilding its squad every three years. This season, he said, would involve players getting to know one another. Yıldırım also openly acknowledged a disagreement with the coach, who wanted an experienced center-back. Yıldırım said the club already had four young central defenders capable of completing the league campaign.

The squad is full under the club’s “10+4” limit, leaving Borevkovic as the player who must depart before Samsunspor can sign a striker. Yıldırım said the club had no room for another addition unless the defender leaves. He added that the team has only two wingers and no alternatives, leaving the club with limited options if the transfer does not happen.
