Zagreb cycling path choked by trash, locals consider self-cleanup

Trash is piling up along Zagreb's Greenway cycling path, with a reader reporting the situation has remained unchanged since January. The lack of waste bins and systematic cleaning has led to refuse accumulating, particularly near Cvjetno naselje and the Sportsko-rekreacijski centar Mladost.

The only difference is that vegetation has covered part of the waste during spring, but the problem remains the same, and very visible to anyone passing through that part.

Reader Gordan Škorić criticized the City of Zagreb and Zagrebački Holding for their "complete disinterest" in maintaining city cleanliness. He noted that while spring vegetation has hidden some of the trash, the problem persists. Škorić pointed out the absence of bins as a significant infrastructure failure, exacerbating the issue of public littering.

The state on the ground shows the complete disinterest of the City of Zagreb and Zagrebački Holding in maintaining the city's cleanliness, but also an example of how a project should not be managed.

The responsibility for cleanliness maintenance has reportedly been transferred from Holding to the local municipal committee. Škorić expressed concern that local representatives seem unaware of the problem, suggesting a failure in local governance. He argued that this shift of responsibility between institutions leaves the actual problem unresolved.

Unfortunately, not even bins can solve the lack of basic upbringing of individuals, but the absence of any infrastructure further worsens the situation.

Local councilor Pero Kovačević stated that while no formal complaints were made at council meetings, he would raise the issue again. If the municipal committee fails to act, Kovačević plans to propose that council members and local committee representatives clean the area themselves.

Especially concerning is the fact that Holding has shifted the issue of cleanliness maintenance to the local municipal committee, thus shifting responsibility from one institution to another, while the actual problem is not being solved.
