Zagreb Extends Catering Hours for World Cup Matches

Fans in Zagreb will have extended opportunities to celebrate during the 2026 World Cup, as the city officially permits cafes and restaurants to stay open later on days when Croatia plays.

For the duration of the matches of the Croatian national football team at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the USA, an extension of operating hours is approved for catering facilities in the "Restaurants" and "Bars" categories within the City of Zagreb, specifically: June 17, 2026, until 2:00 AM, June 24, 2026, until 3:00 AM, June 27, 2026, until 2:00 AM.

Mayor Tomislav Tomašević announced that operating hours will be extended on June 17, 24, and 27. On June 17 and 27, establishments can remain open until 2:00 AM, while on June 24, they can stay open until 3:00 AM. Tomašević stated the decision aims to accommodate restaurateurs while respecting nighttime peace.

We wanted to accommodate the restaurateurs, and we consulted with them and our coalition partners to extend operating hours while the Croatian national team is playing. On the other hand, we must be careful not to make it excessively long, considering nighttime peace.

Beyond extended hours, the city is enhancing the fan experience. The "Mi Hrvati" association has received approval to set up a stage and video screen at Ban Jelačić Square. Additionally, the Croatian Football Federation's request for a fan zone at Cvjetni Trg is being processed. These venues will allow citizens to watch all World Cup matches, not just those featuring the Croatian team.
