Zagreb man charged with attempted murder after cafe stabbing

A violent incident in Zagreb, Croatia, has led to the arrest of a 43-year-old man charged with attempted murder. The man is accused of stabbing two younger men following a verbal altercation in a cafe in Novi Zagreb on Saturday afternoon, May 24.

The dispute reportedly began when the suspect took issue with the way two men, aged 26 and 35, were interacting with a waitress at the establishment. According to police reports from the Zagreb Police Department, the situation escalated quickly after the suspect entered into a verbal conflict with the pair.

Witnesses and police accounts suggest the suspect then produced a folding knife and ordered the men to exit the premises. Once outside in the parking lot, the confrontation turned physical. The suspect allegedly attacked the 26-year-old first, inflicting stab wounds to his head, chest, and thigh. He then reportedly turned his attention to the 35-year-old, stabbing him in the abdomen.

Both injured men were transported to the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb, where they were treated for serious injuries. The alleged assailant was apprehended later that evening. Following a criminal investigation, he was handed over to a detention supervisor with a formal charge of attempted murder.
