Zagreb salary debate: Users question 1800 euro average as many report earning less

A discussion on Reddit has sparked debate about average salaries in Zagreb after a user questioned the widely reported figure of 1800 euros. The user, who identified as relatively young, stated, "I don't know anyone who earns that much," prompting others to share their own income experiences.

Responses revealed a wide range of salaries, often falling short of the reported average. A PhD student/assistant at a faculty mentioned earning around 1400 euros, while a high school teacher reported a salary of 1450 euros. A nursing graduate working in an operating room with on-call duties earned approximately 2200-2300 euros. Conversely, some individuals in manual labor roles, such as a truck driver (C/E category) or an air conditioning installer, reported earning between 1700 and 2100 euros, with the latter noting that weekends are paid extra.

Official data for March indicated a median net salary in Zagreb of 1497 euros, meaning half of the employed residents earned less. The highest average net salary was in financial services (2535 euros), and the lowest was in clothing manufacturing (1021 euros).
