Zagreb Sidewalk Gets a Colorful Makeover Inspired by Local Tiles

A sidewalk in Zagreb has been transformed with vibrant artwork, bringing a touch of local culture to the public space. Located on Ulica kneza Ljudevita Posavskog, in front of the SUVAG Polyclinic, the pavement now features colorful motifs inspired by the distinctive ceramic tiles of the Donji Grad district.

The project was spearheaded by Kristijan Balen, a member of the SDP Donji Grad branch and the chairman of the Kralj Zvonimir local committee. This initiative was realized as part of the Kralj Zvonimir local committee's 2026 plan, with financial support from the Donji Grad City District Council.

The core idea behind the project was to enhance the public space, making it more recognizable and pleasant for all Zagreb residents. Simultaneously, it aims to promote and preserve the rich heritage of the Donji Grad area. The inspiration for the artistic designs came from Zagreb's street art scene, specifically from artist Boris Bare.

The newly decorated sidewalk now adds a splash of color to the daily lives of passersby, celebrating the unique aesthetic of Zagreb's historic districts. The project serves as an example of how local initiatives can contribute to the beautification and cultural enrichment of urban environments.
