Zagreb to Spend Up to 450,000 Euros on Fountain Maintenance

Zagreb is preparing to allocate up to 450,000 euros, excluding VAT, for the maintenance of the prominent fountains located near the National University Library. The contract, expected to last one year, will cover a wide range of services, including ensuring water quality meets drinking water standards, maintaining the audio system, LED lighting, pumps, various nozzles, and filters. The city aims to find a company through a tender process to manage these tasks.

The fountains, originally activated in 2012 and renovated four years later, have a history of controversy. The initial renovation cost 18.4 million kuna, drawing criticism and leading to the fountains being commonly referred to as 'Bandić's fountains,' after the former mayor. Despite the past criticism, the current city administration intends to continue their upkeep.

Maintenance of a complex system like a fountain must be carried out promptly by responsible individuals with experience in building and maintaining complex electro-mechanical systems. Through the maintenance system, it is necessary to improve the automatic operation of individual fountains and the fountain system as a whole.

The tender documentation specifies that maintenance will involve regular repairs on weekly, monthly, semi-annual, or annual bases, depending on the type of work. It also includes plans to improve the automatic operation system of the fountains. The selected company must ensure timely maintenance by experienced personnel skilled in complex electro-mechanical systems. The goal is to enhance the automatic functionality of individual fountains and the system as a whole, ensuring water is clean and meets hygienic standards comparable to drinking water.
