Zelensky says Russia assisting Iran regime after Ukraine attacks Iranian ship in Caspian Sea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of actively assisting the Iranian regime by providing intelligence, following Iran's threats of missile attacks against Ukraine. Zelensky stated on X/Twitter that Russia is sharing its satellite surveillance data with Iranian authorities, noting a direct correlation between this intelligence and subsequent Iranian strikes in Gulf states.

He detailed that since early July, Russia has conducted active satellite surveillance of Gulf states and US military facilities, with the imagery subsequently appearing in Iran. Zelensky pointed to a clear link between Russia's satellite imagery of these sites and Iranian strikes, both in preparation and damage assessment.

Zelensky cited specific instances, noting that on July 19 and 20 alone, four air bases in Bahrain and Jordan fell within the area of interest of Russian satellites. He concluded that "evil always seeks ways to make things worse and spread further" and that "Russia must be stopped. This war must be stopped. Pressure on the aggressor must work."

At the same time, there is a clear correlation between Russia’s satellite imagery of these sites and Iranian strikes - both before the attacks, in preparation for them, and afterward, to assess the damage inflicted.

Wall Street Journal Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Yaroslav Trofimov commented that "the two wars have officially merged," referring to the US strikes on Iran and the war in Ukraine. This merging is further evidenced by Zelensky's claim that Ukraine targeted a ship transporting Iranian military items to Russia. Iran, meanwhile, claimed the Ukrainian attack killed a sailor on the ship, labeling it a civilian incident.
