Zelensky Says U.S. Is Exploring Winter De-escalation in Russia-Ukraine War

The United States is exploring whether Russia and Ukraine can reduce hostilities during the winter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Zelensky spoke after U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and others recently visited Moscow. He said the envoys returned with indications that Russia was prepared to continue negotiations even as the war continues.

His comments point to an effort to examine limited steps that could lower the level of fighting during the winter, without suggesting that the broader conflict has ended.
