Zelenskyy awards Elon Musk Ukraine's Order of Freedom for Starlink's wartime role

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has honored Elon Musk with Ukraine's Order of Freedom, one of the nation's highest state honors, recognizing his "outstanding personal merits" in defending lives and freedom during the ongoing conflict.

Musk, the founder of SpaceX, has become a pivotal, albeit sometimes controversial, figure in Ukraine's war effort. His decision to provide access to Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet network, proved to be a crucial lifeline for Ukraine following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022 and remains vital for military operations.

Starlink's satellite connectivity is now deeply integrated into Ukraine's military, enabling commanders and soldiers to communicate and coordinate operations effectively. The technology has been instrumental in Ukraine's drone operations, allowing operators to maintain links and navigate drones over extended distances, contributing to early successes in disrupting Russian logistics.
