Zelenskyy praises Merz’s sanctions stance and offers Ukrainian drone expertise

Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to help Germany with expertise and experience as Berlin and Kyiv work to finalize a planned drone agreement.

“I assured him that Ukraine is ready to help with expertise, experience or in other areas where Germany needs it,” Zelenskyy said after speaking with Chancellor Friedrich Merz by phone. The two leaders also discussed the planned agreement, whose text is still being completed.

Zelenskyy said the deal would give both Germany and Ukraine additional opportunities to protect themselves. He did not announce a date for signing, but said he and Merz had agreed to hold an in-person meeting.

The Ukrainian president again thanked Merz for Germany’s reliable support and its leadership in protecting Ukrainian lives. New air-defense packages from Germany are expected to arrive later this month. “Thank you, Germany! Thank you, Friedrich!” Zelenskyy wrote.

German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said Merz also told Zelenskyy that the federal government holds Russia responsible for the attempted attack in Leipzig. Merz stressed that Ukraine could rely on Germany to continue its determined civilian and military support, while Zelenskyy thanked him for assistance including air defense.
