Zhongli lumber factory fire spreads to traditional house, firefighters spend 10 hours on scene

A significant fire erupted at a lumber factory in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, on the evening of July 9th, rapidly engulfing the two-story structure. The blaze, which began around 6:10 PM, spread extensively due to the large quantity of wooden pallets stored on-site, consuming an area of approximately 1,000 square meters.

The fire also extended to an adjacent, abandoned single-story brick house of traditional 'three-sided' design. Firefighters were deployed immediately after the initial report at 6:10 PM, with the fire being brought under control by 8:01 PM and declared extinguished by 10:02 PM. However, the process of extinguishing remaining embers continued until approximately 4:30 AM on July 10th, totaling over 10 hours of intensive firefighting operations.

In total, 177 firefighters, 48 fire trucks, and 7 ambulances were mobilized to combat the inferno. The factory manager, surnamed Hu, reported that the fire started accidentally while burning杂物 (miscellaneous waste or debris), which then ignited the stacked wooden pallets. Efforts to extinguish the fire with extinguishers were unsuccessful.

While the fire caused extensive damage to the factory and the adjacent traditional house, there were no reports of anyone being trapped or injured within the factory premises. However, an 89-year-year-old woman residing in a downwind area experienced discomfort due to smoke inhalation. She was conscious but was transported to the Taoyuan Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare for examination as a precautionary measure. The exact cause of the fire and the total financial losses are still under investigation.
