Zimbabwe Secures Duty-Free Access to Chinese Market

Zimbabwean businesses are poised to significantly expand their exports to China following the nation's completion of all requirements for duty-free market access. The national trade promotion organization, ZimTrade, confirmed that exporters can now secure the necessary Certificates of Origin. This allows qualifying products shipped to China on or after May 1 to benefit from preferential tariff treatment. The move is part of a broader China-Africa preferential trade arrangement, which China expanded in early July to include all 53 African countries with diplomatic ties, offering them zero-tariff access. This milestone opens up substantial opportunities for Zimbabwean companies to tap into one of the world's largest consumer markets. Zimbabwe has already made strides in agricultural exports, with its first shipment of blueberries to China occurring in early July, following a protocol signed last year. Bilateral agreements for citrus and avocado exports have also been established, paving the way for a wider range of agricultural products to enter the Chinese market.
