Zinedine Zidane signs deal to become France's national team coach until 2030

Zinedine Zidane is reportedly on the verge of officially returning to coaching, having signed a contract to succeed Didier Deschamps as the head coach of the French national football team. According to reports, the agreement is set to run until mid-2030.

While the French Football Federation had not yet made an official announcement as of Tuesday, July 21, French media widely treat Zidane's appointment as a certainty. An official presentation is anticipated by the end of July, with his contract officially commencing on September 1.

Sources suggest that the deal was agreed upon in principle back in November. Zidane is said to have turned down several club offers in recent months, prioritizing the national team position. His tenure will allow him to lead France at EURO 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.

Details regarding Zidane's coaching staff are still emerging, with David Bettoni, a trusted associate from his Real Madrid days, reportedly among those considered. Former goalkeeper Fabien Barthez might also take on a role within the new technical team. Notably, Zidane's salary, which is expected to exceed the 450,000 euro gross annual ceiling for certain federation leadership positions, will require approval from the French Ministry of Sports.
