Zonnebeke Opens Renovated Villa Zonnedaele as Wedding Venue and Community Hub

Zonnebeke, Belgium, has officially opened the doors of its newly renovated Villa Zonnedaele, transforming the 1930s-era building into a vibrant, multi-functional community hub. The extensive renovation project, which cost just over 2 million euros, breathes new life into the historic villa, originally built by the de Vinck-Iweins family.

The villa will now house a local service center, a community hall, and notably, a wedding venue. "The villa should be an open house for both residents and tourists," said alderman Joachim Jonckheere. "But one of the most striking spaces is the ceremony hall in the former attic." Architects intentionally left the original timber framing exposed, giving the space a distinctive character for couples exchanging vows.

While civil ceremonies will still be possible at the town hall, Jonckheere anticipates the villa's unique charm will attract many couples. "I think many people will choose this location. It has turned out particularly beautiful," he stated. The municipality also plans to offer outdoor weddings in the surrounding park starting next year.

Beyond its role as a venue, Villa Zonnedaele will also serve as the headquarters for Zonnebeke's new community center, with operations officially commencing after the summer. The municipality secured a 750,000 euro subsidy from the Flemish government for its function as a local service center, contributing significantly to the overall investment.
