Mark Zuckerberg is championing open-source artificial intelligence, urging the United States and its allies to take the lead in this rapidly evolving field. In his manifesto, 'The Future is for Everyone: The Path to a Positive AI Future,' the Meta CEO argues that an open-source AI ecosystem is crucial for empowering individuals and maintaining a balance of power, drawing a strategic parallel with China's approach to capturing global developers and markets.

Zuckerberg contends that U.S. policy currently places additional restrictions on training data for American AI labs, creating a disadvantage compared to foreign competitors. He calls for these obstacles to be reduced to ensure American open-source models can maintain their leadership. This push for open-source AI aligns with Meta's recent release of two new AI models, Muse Glimmer and Muse Spark 1.2, which feature "open weights," making their fundamental parameters publicly accessible.
