Zurich and Lausanne ranked among world's top student cities, but slip slightly in 2027 rankings

Zurich ranks as the world's tenth-best student city, with Lausanne following at 23rd place, according to the QS Best Student Cities 2027 ranking. The annual report, compiled by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds, is widely recognized for its assessments of educational institutions.

Despite their strong showing, both Swiss cities have experienced a slight decline in their rankings since last year, when they were placed ninth and 21st, respectively. Viggo Stacey, a QS public relations specialist, noted that the global higher education sector is dynamic, with new institutions rising in prominence. He described the continued high placement of Zurich and Lausanne as "quite remarkable."

The QS rankings, while influential, are also subject to debate regarding their methodological basis, a common characteristic of similar global assessments. This year's top cities include Seoul, Tokyo, London, Melbourne, Munich, Sydney, Paris, Berlin, and Vienna, all of which precede Zurich in the rankings.
