1,280 West Java Migrant Worker Candidates Join SMK Go Global Training

A total of 1,280 prospective Indonesian migrant workers in West Java will receive training under the SMK Go Global program, with Bandung University of Technology serving as one of the locations preparing participants for international employment.

The West Java launch took place at the Migrant Center on the university’s campus on Aug. 26, 2026. Participants first undergo administrative screening and interviews. Those who pass then receive training based on their fields of competence and the overseas job opportunities available to them.

The training covers several sectors at UTB, including production operations, manufacturing and English. There is also Japanese and nursery training. SMK Go Global can cover all of these areas for those who want to go abroad and need to improve their capabilities.

West Java BP3MI chief Senior Commissioner Singgih Hermawan said the training would last between one and three months. Courses include production operations, manufacturing, English, Japanese and nursery work. “The training covers several sectors at UTB, including production operations, manufacturing and English. Singgih also stressed that participants must prepare mentally and develop the ability to adapt while working far from their families. “We hope the participants at UTB can carry out the training well, stay motivated and remain mentally strong,” he said. After meeting placement requirements, participants will be prepared to work in countries designated by the government. They are expected to maintain their competence and uphold Indonesia’s reputation in their destination countries.

Bandung University of Technology Rector Muchammad Naseer said technical skills must develop alongside character. Discipline, adaptability and professionalism would be essential in an international workplace. “Skills are important, but attitude also determines how a person is accepted, trusted and able to grow in a work environment,” he said.

West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman said the program brings government and universities together to prepare young people for the global labor market. “This is a great program scheme because the relevant ministries, the government and universities are collaborating to prepare our young people to enter the global job market through the SMK Go Global program,” he said. The provincial government plans to expand access through partnerships with public and private universities, with a goal of ensuring that no young person in West Java is unemployed by 2029.

Herman also said young people need critical thinking, creativity and artificial intelligence skills to adapt to changing labor demands. At the national level, Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister Mukhtarudin called SMK Go Global a priority program. The government plans to prepare 500,000 skilled workers for overseas employment between 2026 and 2029, with annual targets of 40,000 participants in 2026, 140,000 in 2027, 180,000 in 2028 and 140,000 in 2029.
