1 dead following officer-involved shooting in Calgary

Calgary police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in one fatality early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred after officers responded to a call at a residence on the 200 block of Legacy Circle in southeast Calgary around 1:30 a.m.

Details surrounding the nature of the initial call and the events that transpired leading to the shooting have not yet been released by the Calgary Police Service. Authorities confirmed that the individual they were responding to has died. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has taken charge of the investigation into the shooting.

Residents in the Legacy neighborhood reported being woken by emergency services between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Some were temporarily evacuated due to a reported gas leak but were allowed back into their homes shortly after. The presence of police and emergency vehicles has become a familiar sight for some locals, though the specific reasons for their frequent appearances remain unclear to them.

The incident has left some residents shaken. Jeremy Siemens, who lives in the area, described the event as "terrible" and not what one would expect in their community. Calgary police have stated that a further update will be provided later on Wednesday.
