103-Year-Old Former Police Officer Turned Artist Honored Among 56 Exemplary Fathers in Taiwan

The Bādé District Office held an event to honor 56 exemplary fathers, celebrating their diverse contributions to family and society. Among the distinguished honorees was 103-year-old Liu Gushan, who had a remarkable career transition from serving as a police officer involved in shootouts to becoming an accomplished artist specializing in stone carving and calligraphy.

Other fathers recognized included Chang Kuang-tsung, who dedicated years to indigenous cultural education and curriculum development, actively teaching at tribal colleges and preserving A-mei culture. Huang Chen-fa from Bai Lu Village was honored for his active role in community events like the Sweet Potato Carnival and for caring for elderly and cognitively impaired residents, fostering a supportive community network.

Additionally, Cho Sheng-liang was recognized for his long-term support of the "Mixed-Ability Variety Group," assisting disabled and disadvantaged performers to showcase their talents through music and arts, demonstrating a commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals.

Taoyuan City Deputy Mayor Su Chun-bin highlighted the "hidden talents" among this year's awardees, emphasizing their roles not only as pillars of their families but also as quiet contributors in fields such as art, education, community service, and welfare. He noted their resilience and warm social contributions, embodying the spirit of fatherhood.
