104 Transferred from Mahara Prison After Unrest; Visitors Delayed

Authorities have transferred 104 inmates from Mahara Prison to other correctional facilities following a period of unrest within the prison. Rohana Galappaththi, the Superintendent of Mahara Prison, confirmed the transfers and stated that a list of the relocated inmates has been displayed at the main entrance.

Due to the unrest and subsequent damage to prison property, access for visitors will be suspended for three days, starting today, August 3. This delay is necessary to facilitate the cleanup of damaged areas and necessary repairs. The superintendent assured that the remaining inmates are currently behaving normally and urged their relatives not to harbor any fears or suspicions.

Mahara Magistrate's Court Magistrate conducted an observation and inquiry within the prison premises yesterday, August 2, concerning the recent incidents. Multiple agencies are reportedly conducting their own investigations into the events that transpired at the Mahara Prison.
