10th Chief Nkwoji Memorial Golf Tournament Tees Off in Aba

The 10th Chief Mike Nkwoji (OKPATAOZUORA) Memorial Golf Tournament is underway today, June 20, 2026, at the Aba Sports Club 1926 Golf Section in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. The event has attracted over 200 amateur golfers from across the country and beyond, alongside professional players.

Yesterday, ladies in handicap categories 29-36 and professional golfers competed. Today, other categories will participate in the tournament established to commemorate the late Chief Nkwoji, who was known for his philanthropy and humanism. His wife, Iyom Ongodi, and son, Obi, both avid golfers, are also taking part in the memorial event.

After his passing away 10 years ago, the family has continued to brighten his legacy in the golf community.

Organized by the golf section of the club under the leadership of its new Captain, Sir Bona Anyadiaso, in collaboration with Chief Nkwoji's family, the tournament continues his legacy of giving back. The day's activities began between 7 am and 10 am, with a symbolic "hole 19" event scheduled for 3 pm, followed by the presentation of trophies and prizes to the winners.

As evidenced by motorised tractor donation, the caddy house with food vendors court, annual sponsorship of this tournament and many other philanthropic moves.

According to the organizers, the family has sustained Chief Nkwoji's legacy over the past decade through various philanthropic acts. These include donating a motorized tractor, building a caddy house with food vendor facilities, and annually sponsoring this golf tournament. Chief Nkwoji himself was instrumental in the club's development, sponsoring hole number one and contributing to the construction of the greens and the clubhouse.

The 10th edition of the tournament is expected to draw top professionals, club members, and golf enthusiasts from the region, featuring golfers across all categories. The event serves not only as a tribute to Chief Nkwoji but also as a platform to foster golf development in Aba and its surrounding areas.
