11-Vehicle Crash Ends Baker’s Dream of Opening a Cafe

Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd. Kazwan turned a love of baking into a cafe business, leaving her industrial job to open Secangkir Cafe in Sungai Karang about two years ago. That ambition ended in an 11-vehicle crash that killed her, her husband and their son.

The collision occurred at Kilometer 110.3 of the eastbound East Coast Expressway near Lanchang in Temerloh. Her brother, Mohd. Hafiz Rifqi, said the family did not know she was returning from Kuala Lumpur after attending the 69th National Day celebration in Putrajaya.

She really loved making cakes. That was her passion.

The family learned about the crash at about 7.45 a.m., although it occurred around 11 p.m. the previous night. A friend forwarded the news to Hafiz, who said relatives knew Atiqah had gone to Putrajaya because she shared photographs and updates in the family WhatsApp group. They did not know when she had begun the journey home or whether she had arrived safely.

Hafiz remembered his sister as a well-liked person known in Kuantan’s photography and business communities. Alongside running the cafe, she worked as a photographer and had many friends. News of her death prompted acquaintances to share tributes on social media. “She really loved making cakes. That was her passion,” he said.
