11th Outlying Islands Games to be Held in Matsu Starting September 29

The 11th Outlying Islands Games are set to take place in Matsu from September 29 to October 5, with the Lienchiang County Government serving as the host. Registration for the event officially opened on July 27 and will continue until August 31.

This significant sporting event aims to strengthen the bonds between the three major outlying island counties: Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. It seeks to highlight the teamwork, competitive spirit, and athletic capabilities of the island communities and their military personnel. Organizers are inviting athletes from across the region to participate in the festivities.

The competition schedule includes a diverse range of 10 popular sports, such as track and field, basketball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, slow-pitch softball, woodball, croquet, pickleball, and sea fishing. The county-level competitions are further divided into social, junior high, and elementary school divisions, offering opportunities for various age groups.

Specifically, the social group will compete in eight events including tennis, slow-pitch softball, sea fishing, badminton, basketball, table tennis, woodball, and track and field. Junior high and elementary school participants will compete in five events: badminton, basketball, table tennis, woodball, and track and field. The sea fishing competition for the social group is slated to kick off the events on September 21, with the official opening ceremony scheduled for October 3 at the Fuao Sports Field in Nangan Township, Matsu.
