12 Die, 14 Injured in Tragic Edo Auto Crash Following Dangerous Overtaking

Tragedy struck on the Benin–Auchi–Lokoja Road in Egono, near Ewu, Edo State, when a horrific auto crash claimed the lives of 12 individuals and left 14 others with varying degrees of injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the devastating incident on Wednesday, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving on our highways.

Eyewitness accounts and FRSC officials indicate that the accident involved a truck carrying both passengers and goods. The truck was reportedly speeding towards Benin City when its driver attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver, lost control, and the vehicle subsequently fell off the road, trapping some of the passengers. Out of the 37 passengers involved, 12 tragically died, 14 sustained injuries, and some miraculously escaped unharmed.

Patricia Onwochei, spokesperson for the Edo State Command of the FRSC, stated that the accident was caused by "wrongful overtaking." She confirmed that 11 bodies were deposited at the St. Lazarus Hospital mortuary, while one victim had already been buried.
