Officials in southwestern Afghanistan confirmed the grim discovery of 14 Afghan migrants' bodies, buried beneath the sand in a harsh desert environment. The migrants were undertaking a perilous journey toward Iran when their vehicle malfunctioned, compelling them to proceed on foot across the arid landscape of Nimroz province. Temperatures in the region can soar to around 45 degrees Celsius during this time of year, exacerbating the dangers of their trek.

Authorities initiated a search for the group after the vehicle's driver managed to reach a village, exhausted and dehydrated, to request assistance. While five bodies were found shortly after the search began, the focus shifted to locating the remaining 14 individuals who had pressed on.
