147 Lagos Structures to be Affected by Coastal Highway Service Lane Construction

The development of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project will necessitate the demolition or modification of 147 structures in Lagos, according to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement and flag-off ceremony for repair works on the Eko Bridge and Marine Bridge, President Tinubu, represented by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, detailed the impact of the highway's service lane construction. He specified that five of the affected structures would be completely removed, while the remaining 142 would undergo minimal alterations.

Tinubu highlighted the significance of the Eko Bridge as one of Nigeria's oldest post-independence constructions and noted the Marine Bridge's crucial role in providing access to Lagos's seaports. He urged the state government to maintain its developmental trajectory across the state.

The President acknowledged the extensive renovation works undertaken by the Federal Government in Lagos and expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their engagement. He praised the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, for his contributions to road infrastructure development. Tinubu assured attendees that necessary compensations would be disbursed at the appropriate time, emphasizing that infrastructure projects are investments designed to benefit citizens for generations.
