15th International Festival of Symphonic Music (April 30-May 7): Twenty-one Countries Gather

The Opéra d’Alger Boualem Bessaieh is set to host the 15th edition of the International Festival of Symphonic Music, a prestigious event that has become a cornerstone of Algeria's cultural calendar. From April 30 to May 7, the stage will come alive with the sounds of orchestras from twenty-one countries, representing a rich tapestry of global musical talent.

This year's festival pays a special tribute to the late Noubli Fadel, a celebrated Algerian musician, composer, and conductor whose mastery of the lute left an indelible mark on Algerian art music. Fadel's legacy extends to film scores, including notable works like "Les Portes du silence" and "Fleur de lotus," as well as compositions for renowned Arab lyric artists such as Wadie Essafi, Mayada El Hananoui, and Lotfi Bouchenak.

Beyond honoring a national icon, the festival serves as a vital platform for international cultural dialogue. Ensembles from Algeria, Mexico, Russia, Austria, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Germany, the Czech Republic (this year's guest of honor), Poland, South Korea, Tunisia, Angola, Japan, Syria, Denmark, and Venezuela will present works by universal composers. The closing evening promises a grand finale, featuring musicians from Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine joining the Arab Symphony Orchestra, conducted by prominent figures and featuring celebrated soloists and a choir. Despite a somewhat constrained budget, the festival's organizers are committed to ensuring a vibrant and memorable experience, underscoring Algeria's dedication to promoting music and cultural exchange on a global scale.
