16 injured in massive drone attack on Moscow region

Moscow and its surrounding region suffered a massive drone attack on Thursday, injuring at least 16 people, including two children aged 3 and 10. The assault, described as the largest against the Russian capital in two years of war, prompted emergency services to battle fires ignited by the strikes.

According to local authorities, drones impacted a refinery complex in southeastern Moscow, which had been targeted previously. The city's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that air defense forces were actively repelling the attack, with fragments of a downed drone falling near a shopping center adjacent to the Kapotnya industrial area.

Sobyanin estimated that over 190 drones were downed overnight, with Moscow as their target. The incident led to the temporary closure of all airports in the Moscow region, resulting in the cancellation of approximately 30 flights at Sheremetyevo Airport alone. The Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted a total of 555 Ukrainian drones across numerous regions, including Astrakhan, Belgorod, and Moscow.

Regional authorities also reported downing 60 drones in the Bryansk region and another 60 in Rostov, where one person died and two were injured. Another fatality was reported in Belgorod, a region bordering Ukraine. The scale of the aerial assault underscores the ongoing intensity of the conflict.
