About ABC Color
ABC Color was founded on August 8, 1967, by businessman Aldo Zuccolillo. It is owned by Editorial Azeta S.A., a subsidiary of Grupo Azeta, and ownership remains with the Zuccolillo family. Following Aldo Zuccolillo's death in 2018, his daughter Natalia Zuccolillo assumed leadership of the holding company and editorial direction.
ABC Color initially supported the Stroessner regime but shifted to outspoken criticism, leading to its closure in 1984 and the imprisonment of its founder. Since its reopening in 1989, it has been known for its independent and investigative journalism, often challenging government corruption and policy failures. The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) has expressed concern over judicial harassment and defamation lawsuits against ABC Color, viewing them as attempts to intimidate independent journalism in Paraguay. Paraguay's broader media environment faces economic pressures and ownership concentration, with rural journalists facing greater risks.
