163 Abducted Victims Rescued in Kwara State After Six Months

A total of 163 victims abducted during a deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have been rescued. The victims, who were taken captive in February, regained their freedom on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after six months in captivity.

The rescued individuals arrived in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, late Thursday night. Sources indicated they were received at the Nigerian Army's 2 Division, Sobi Barracks, and subsequently moved to an undisclosed location for the night. The abduction occurred when armed bandits invaded the Woro community, resulting in the deaths of numerous residents and the kidnapping of many others.

The rescue operation is the culmination of sustained military efforts and coordinated actions by various security agencies. The victims were transported to Ilorin from Niger State, where they had been held.

This development marks a major breakthrough in the months-long efforts to secure the release of the abductees. Authorities are currently in the process of verifying the exact number of individuals rescued and ensuring they receive necessary care and support. The rescued victims are expected to be officially handed over to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
