165 Cultural Foundations Gather in Sokcho to Discuss Future of Regional Culture

Sokcho, Gangwon Province, will host the '2026 Regional Symbiosis, Culture Companion Festa' from July 8 to 11, bringing together over 165 employees and artists from cultural foundations nationwide. The event, organized by the Korea Association of Regional Cultural Foundations, aims to foster collaboration and exchange among regional cultural foundations while showcasing successful local cultural initiatives.

This year's festival expands beyond traditional exhibitions and forums to include interactive programs like performances, cultural tours, and a flea market, designed for public participation. Key events include an exhibition of outstanding regional cultural foundation projects, policy forums, "Culture Companion Busking" performances, and a regional symbiosis market and concert series. The exhibition will highlight projects from 40 foundations, with policy discussions focusing on the future development of local culture.

The Sokcho Culture and Tourism Foundation plans to leverage the festival to promote Sokcho's natural beauty and local cultural content to a national audience. "This festival is a meaningful event where 1,000 people from cultural foundations and the arts gather to reflect on the challenges facing cultural cities and establish models for future development," said Lee Byung-sun, Chairman of the Sokcho Culture and Tourism Foundation. "We will prepare diligently to ensure this festival sets a new precedent for symbiosis and solidarity among cultural foundations."
