17-year-old drowns in Hazar Lake

A tragic incident occurred in Hazar Lake, located in the Sivrice district, when a 17-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as Mehmet Ali Ateş, had traveled from Diyarbakır with his family.

Seeking to cool off from the summer heat, Ateş entered the lake. However, he soon disappeared from sight, causing alarm among his relatives. They immediately alerted the authorities, leading to a swift response from multiple emergency services.

Health teams, gendarmerie, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), UMKE (National Medical Rescue Team), and a specialized underwater search unit from the Provincial Police Department were dispatched to the scene. After an extensive search operation in the lake, the teams tragically recovered Ateş's lifeless body.

Following the recovery, a prosecutor conducted an on-site examination of the scene. The deceased's body was then transported to the morgue at Fırat University Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
