17-year-old fugitive captured on motorcycle, found with handgun

Police in Montevideo apprehended a 17-year-old who had escaped from the INISA juvenile detention center in May. The teenager was found riding a motorcycle with another individual at the intersection of Carlos María Herrera and Emancipación streets. Upon spotting the police, both occupants abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot. The 17-year-old was detained, while his companion escaped into a nearby residence.

During the arrest, authorities confiscated a Glock pistol with a suppressed serial number, two magazines, and 34 rounds of 9mm ammunition from the fugitive. The motorcycle they were riding was also seized. The Area of Investigations of Zone IV is handling the case, and the 3rd Turn Prosecutor's Office for Adolescents has ordered the teenager's return to an INISA facility, along with a ballistics analysis of the seized weapon.

In a separate incident on Saturday, August 22, a 19-year-old man died after being stabbed in Montevideo. The victim was walking with another young man near Emancipación and Aldao streets when a man known in the area allegedly stabbed him in the chest and fled. Police responded to a report of a stabbing victim arriving at a local clinic and subsequently transferred the injured man to Hospital del Cerro, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have identified a 35-year-old suspect with a criminal record in connection with the homicide.
